Eric David is passionate about movies, emphasis on "passion," in both the emotional and the spiritual sense. He loves movies so much, it hurts! While attending film school at the University of Southern California (where he earned his Master's degree), Eric wrote coverage on hundreds of scripts while interning for both Lynda Obst Productions and Robert Lawrence Productions. He has written many scripts, including one written for Yolanda King about the civil rights era, but he stepped away from pursuing a role in the industry to focus on his family. He hopes to have a project made about his son, Dylan, who has bravely fought cancer for four years. Eric loves movies. He has seen thousands has rated nearly all of them at the imdb and on Netflix (where he has more than 6,000 Cinematch ratings). He is especially interested in the portrayal of religion and spirituality in film, listing Martin Scorsese as his favorite filmmaker. As editor of his college newspaper, he won awards in numerous categories, both for editing, spot reporting and writing from the Society of Professional Journalists; and he has continued to write in many different veins, primarily at the intersection of theology and film. He has presented at the Getty Museum about the history of Christ in film, and he has written reviews, essays and articles for Christianity Today (with which he created an entire series), The Mars Hill Review, The City of the Angels Film Festival, The Bastard Quarterly and The Ooze. Eric also serves as media consultant for Homiletics Magazine; and is a highly active volunteer at his church, Brentwood Presbyterian, on their Worship and Music team: writing dramas from brief sketches to full-length productions, introducing film clips to illustrate sermons, directing film & faith series and leading spiritual discussions, as well as rewriting the stories of the Bible in imaginative language for the church's Children's Ministry. He has helped many authors edit their books, and has even built websites for some (with Pulitzer Prize-winner and MacArthur genius Jack Miles being the most notable). He has also written sales book copy for record companies and advertising copy for companies as a freelance writer. Recently Eric's success on the Brentwood Diet was published in the Brentwood News. Many of Eric David's older writings are archived here:
Last, and definitely not least, Eric writes weekly blogs about his son, Dylan, who has been valiantly battling brain tumors since 2007. You may read them at his SuperDylan blog here. Click here for Eric David's resume. |
